This icon depicts the Presentation of Christ in the Temple, forty days after His birth, when the Theotokos and Saint Joseph brought Him according to the Law. The righteous elder Symeon received Christ and proclaimed Him as a light to enlighten the nations, while also foretelling the sorrow the Theotokos would endure. It is a moment of revelation, marking Christ’s offering and His manifestation to the world.
