This icon celebrates the birth of Saint John the Forerunner to the righteous Zacharias and Elizabeth. Foretold by an angel, his birth marks the beginning of his mission to prepare the way for Christ. It is one of the few saintly nativities honoured by the Church, expressing joy and the unfolding of God’s purpose.
