Dormition of the Theotokos Icon- White Marble

Dormition of the Theotokos (Koimisis tis Theotokou) – This icon represents the falling asleep of the Theotokos, marking the end of her earthly life. Tradition holds that Christ Himself came to receive her soul, and when the Apostles later opened her tomb, it was found empty, signifying her bodily assumption into heaven. The Dormition is one of the Great Feasts of the Church, celebrating Mary’s entrance into eternal life and her continued intercession for the faithful.
