Dormition of the Theotokos, Η Κοίμησις της Θεοτόκου

This icon depicts the falling asleep of the Theotokos, marking the end of her earthly life. Surrounded by the Apostles, Christ is shown receiving her soul, symbolised as a small child, into His care. It is one of the Great Feasts of the Church, expressing her passage into eternal life and her continued intercession for the faithful.
